THE SISTERHOOD
Hollywood has it that there are only two kinds of sisters - those who share everything from their cashmere pullovers and secrets to their kidneys and wombs, and those who ...
The truth is that the relationship between sisters is more complex than any movie could ever capture. This is largely due to its evolution over a lifetime and how it is affected by an array of incidents - some significant, some not. (More) |

THE BEAUTY SPOT
But waxing is but a small part of the beauty regime required to make me look, if not the way nature intended, certainly the way Elle magazine did. Facials, manicures, pedicures, massages, lymph drainage, cellulite treatment .....
Narcissistic? Maybe. Time consuming? Definitely. Expensive? Hugely. Worth it? Well, judging from my boyfriend's reaction - absolutely! (More) |

BIKINI OR NOT?
While the underwire bikini top remains a favourite with its lusciously sexy push-up bra-top, there are also younger triangular shapes and a resurgence of the tank top. One pieces hold their own with glamorous retro looks, graphic lines and halters. (More) |

FACE TO FACE WITH EMPOWERDEX CHAIRMAN VUYO JACK
Vuyo Jack is one of the founders of BEE in South Africa. After consultation with an international credit-rating agency in London, he and his partner developed Empowerdex's rating methodology, a pioneering concept at the time. Over the years, this methodology has been adapted to fall in line with the dti's Strategy on Broad-Based BEE, the BEE Act and the draft Codes of Good Practice. (More) |

MIND YOUR OWN BOOBS
Mission accomplished, one day after getting out of hospital, not even the searing pain, light-headedness and permanent nausea from a reaction to the painkillers could keep me away from the Woolies lingerie department. It had thrown down the gauntlet many years ago and we had tangoed a private and bloody battle many times. Having taunted and teased me with the promises of Wonderbras, push-up bras, push-in and push-out bras ... (More) |

BRIDGING THE GAP
In a country of countless extremes it seems we are always bridging some gap, so it's a relief that the middle ground in jewellery has been traversed elsewhere. Now available in South Africa, bridge jewellery does as its name suggests and bridges the gap between costume and fine jewellery, both in quality and in price. (More) |

GIFT RAP
Often, though, especially in boys, the child becomes frustrated, rude and difficult. He might be classified as having ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), be severely disciplined or even put on the hyper-activity drug, Ritalin.
Naturally if these are the scenarios, the drive to learn can easily be snuffed out and all that enormous potential will remain dormant. (More) |

MAKING TIDAL WAVES
The arrival of cellular phones over a decade ago has made business run smoother and faster, and even saved lives. But with claims that there is a direct relationship between the radiation emitted from cellphones and brain tumours, some people are asking: are they actually silent killers? DISCOVERY magazine investigates and finds that the jury is still out. (More) |

BREAST WISHES
While still in hospital a girlfriend had come to visit and, rather than the tedious fruit and flowers which accompanies an illness, she bore other gifts. A toffee apple (the relevance of which still escapes me), two exquisite matching bra and undies sets, and a card: this one had a simple drawing of a lasciviously smiling face and the words on the outside read, "simply irresistible." Inside she had penned, "Aren't they!?!" Hallmark, eat your heart out. (More) |
